Are you...?

...An audio developer who dreams of building tools that composers actually use?

...Tired of 2-year development cycles and corporate approval chains slowing down your creativity?

...A builder who wants to ship a new product every month and see it in actual film scores?

If you're nodding yes, then we at Cinematic Composing have a position that might just hit all the right notes…

Job Title: Senior Audio Developer - Neural Synthesis & Plugin Specialist
Job Type: Full-Time | Fully Remote
Salary: $122,400/year

The role is simple - turn revolutionary audio technology into tools composers love.

At Cinematic Composing, we've spent 8 years empowering over 140,000 composers worldwide with education and tools. We've brought Hollywood professionals and award-winning composers into our programs. We've helped bedroom producers record their music at major studios, have their music placed in TV shows, and score major movies. We've transformed thousands of lives.

But one of the biggest roadblocks our students face: sample libraries. Two main challenges: they are expensive and require hours of technical programming to sound good. Most aspiring composers can't afford them. And even those who can often struggle with the complexity specially at the beginning.

We're building the solution: Neural synthesis-powered orchestral instruments that eliminate the programming layer entirely. Tools that make professional film scoring accessible to everyone - not just those who can afford them, have the technical knowledge, and can put the time to program them.

We've already recorded at world-class studios. We've trained our first models. The prototypes are incredible. Now we need YOU to help us ship this revolution to composers worldwide.

But continue reading, because this position has two facets.

Position: Senior Audio Developer - Neural Synthesis & Plugin Specialist
FT/PT Full-Time - Fully Remote
Department: Product Development
Reports to: CEO/Founder (Marc Jovani)

Startup culture. Small team. Best-in-field talent. Everyone's multifaceted.

Role

Two main focuses:

  • Product Development (70%)
  • Platform Maintenance (30%)

Within Product Development:

  • Monthly Small Cinematic Tools & Libraries (50%)
Design, develop, and ship one production-ready audio tool monthly (plugins, Kontakt instruments, MIDI tools, etc)

  • Neural Synthesis Development (50%)
Multi-year project: Continue development of our DDSP cello project and expand to full orchestral neural instruments

You'll develop and deliver production-ready audio products monthly for our community of 140,000+ composers. (We handle the marketing and sales - you focus on building.)

Your time splits 70/30: building audio tools and maintaining our Python/Flask platform. The audio work includes both monthly releases (plugins, mini libraries, MIDI utilities, synthesizers) and our multi-year neural orchestra project.

You work directly with the founder to turn vision into reality - fast.

Responsibilities

Product Development (70%)

Two main lines of work:

1. Monthly Product Creation
Design, develop, and deliver one production-ready audio tool monthly for cinematic composers.

Examples of what you'll build:

  • One-knob processors (e.g., Strings Warmth: EQ + tube saturation)
  • Solution-oriented Kontakt libraries (e.g., Low Strings Bite: spiccato cello section for layering bite and aggression)
  • Specialty synths (e.g., Strings Low End: bass synth with harmonic distortion to lock with orchestral strings)
  • MIDI utilities (arpeggiators, chord generators, etc.)

2. Neural Synthesis Development
Multi-year project: Continue our DDSP cello section instrument and expand to full orchestral neural instrument.

Technical Requirements:

  • Build VST3/AU/AAX plugins using JUCE framework
  • Ensure compatibility across Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Ableton Live
  • Focus on performance and user experience

Platform Maintenance (30%)

  • Maintain and enhance Python/Flask web platform (store, payment processing, product delivery, stats, tracking, and ticket system) serving 140,000+ users
  • Ensure smooth product delivery and download systems
  • Integrate audio products with platform infrastructure
  • Support product updates and bug fixes

Technical Leadership

  • Make architecture decisions for audio product line
  • Establish best practices for rapid development (transform concepts to working prototypes in days, not months)
  • Ensure cross-platform compatibility (Windows 10/11, macOS 11+, all major DAWs)
  • Document code and APIs for team collaboration
  • Train team members on audio tools as needed

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work directly with CEO on product vision and technical roadmap
  • Participate in Thursday morning team meetings (LA time)
  • Async communication via Slack throughout the week
  • Collaborate with core team of 4 (audio, video, support, CEO)

Results

  • One production-ready audio product ships to 140,000+ users monthly
  • Platform remains stable and delivers products reliably
  • Your tools end up in actual film scores, TV shows, and video games
  • Community receives accessible, high-quality tools that remove technical barriers
  • Company maintains rapid weekly product launch cadence
  • Composers worldwide can focus on creativity instead of technical complexity

Also:

  • Platform stability maintained at 99.9% uptime
  • User-reported bugs resolved within 48 hours
  • Technical documentation enabling team scalability

Requirements

Technical Must-Haves

  • 5-7+ years of audio development experience
  • 2-3+ years shipping commercial plugins or libraries
  • Expert-level C++ and JUCE framework
  • VST3/AU/AAX plugin development experience
  • Git/GitHub proficiency
  • Cross-platform development (Windows 10/11, macOS 11+)
  • Rapid prototyping mindset - ship working products fast
  • Strong Python skills (our platform is Flask-based)

Strongly Preferred

  • Neural audio synthesis experience (DDSP, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Kontakt scripting knowledge
  • Experience at audio companies (plugin developers, sample library companies, etc.)
  • Published audio products we can evaluate
  • Real-time DSP optimization skills

Essential Qualities

  • Comfortable shipping production-ready tools monthly (not MVPs - real products)
  • Thrive in fast-paced startup environment with high ownership
  • Passionate about music technology and empowering cinematic composers
  • Self-directed and detail-oriented
  • Can work independently with minimal specifications
  • Hands-on coder (this is NOT a management role)
  • Leverage modern tools (AI, automation, etc.) to maximize output and efficiency
  • Available for Thursday morning LA time meetings
  • English fluency for documentation and team communication

This is NOT for you if:

  • You prefer extensive documentation before starting
  • You want to perfect architecture over shipping products
  • You need detailed specifications for everything
  • You dismiss AI-assisted development or modern tooling on principle
  • You expect profit sharing or equity (we don't offer it)
  • You can't handle founder-led rapid decisions

DISCLAIMER: This job description is subject to change at any time

The Impact You'll Make

As the lead Audio Dev at CC, you won't just be another employee at a faceless corporation. You'll be the audio development force behind products that reach 140,000+ composers immediately.

Every plugin you build, every library you create, will be used in real film scores. Your code will ship to production monthly. Your innovations will democratize film scoring for composers who couldn't access professional tools or session musicians before.

You'll work directly with our founder, shaping the technical direction of our entire audio product line. Your ideas won't get lost in corporate committees - they'll be implemented immediately and impact thousands of lives.

And here's what makes this truly special: Your tools will end up in Netflix shows, independent films, video game soundtracks. You'll see composers posting about your products. You'll read reviews of your work. You'll watch your creations enable dreams.

But here's our next movement: We're not just teaching anymore - we're building the tools that will revolutionize how composers create. We know the struggles composers face because we’ve been with them in every step of the way during this past 8 years where our only focus has been education.

As a founder, I’ve already built the platform and created the first DDSP prototypes. But to reach the next level – neural orchestral instruments that eliminate the programming complexity of traditional libraries – we need someone with your expertise.

You're not here to manage or to be managed. You're here to build. To ship. To see your code become music in films and games worldwide.
